Back to School Classroom Rules Flashcards for Primary Students

As the new school year begins, establishing clear and engaging classroom rules is essential for creating a positive learning environment.

Flashcards are a fantastic tool to help primary students understand and remember these rules. They can be visually appealing, easy to digest, and fun to use! In this blog post, we’ll explore some effective classroom rules and provide you with flashcard templates to make your back-to-school transition smooth and enjoyable.

Why Use Flashcards?

Flashcards are an excellent resource for several reasons:

Visual Learning: Many students are visual learners. Flashcards combine images and text, making it easier for them to grasp concepts.

Interactive: You can use flashcards in various activities, such as games or group discussions, making learning more interactive.

Reinforcement: Regularly revisiting these flashcards helps reinforce the rules throughout the school year.

Setting clear expectations at the beginning of the school year is crucial for fostering a respectful and productive classroom environment. By using engaging flashcards, you can make learning these rules fun and memorable for your primary students. Let’s kick off this school year with positivity, excitement, and a commitment to creating an exceptional learning space together!

Classroom Objects , Classroom Vocabulary

Follow my blog with Bloglovin
Find a list of Classroom Objects that you can review with your students every beginning of the year. I printed them on colored paper, then cut them. I showed them to students to elicit answers. Some of the words were taught, and some of them were just used during everyday speech.
You can do many followup-activities.
Personally, we played the Broken Telephone game. After each set of 10 classroom objects, I would call 10 students to the board and would whisper a name of a classroom object and each student would repeat it for a friend and only the last student would call out the word loudly.

BACK TO SCHOOL song "HELLO" song

This is a very energetic song that our Music teacher suggested teaching our students last year and I am planning to include in my curriculum this year too. First I made a PowerPoint with the lyrics and then turned it into a video and posted it on YouTube.

WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL POEMS

The Back to School supplies are already shining in the stores and the ads are haunting us at every corner (a sigh).
Have you already turned on the "Back to School" mode? Are you already trying to make up your back to school plans for the coming year? If you are in search of some cute Back to School Welcome poems to teach to your students or just display in class on the first day, I have combined 7 of my favourite "Welcome" poems in one downloadable printable. Most of the poems are traditional or the authors are unknown. If anyone knows the authors, I would love to give credits to them.

First Day of School Interview

This year I am starting a new phase in my life. My son is going to Grade 1 and is going to learn English. And to everybody's great surprise I started teaching him English only a couple of weeks ago.
This is the worksheet specially dedicated to him, a First Day of School Interview sheet which I am planning to make an annual thing.

FIRST DAY OF FIRST GRADE (poem)

While pinning Back to School ideas I came across with this cute poem at Teachers Pay Teachers published by Kelly Conner and as I love teaching poems I immediately turned it into a Back to School worksheet.

BACK TO SCHOOL CLIPART

A while ago I suddenly felt like creating some simple clipart partly inspired by some bloggers and partly trying to avoid any copyright problems. As a result I created a dozen of simple yet cute cliparts that I used in my worksheets and I said to myself that once I reach 100 followers I would share them with my readers as well.
With Back to School around the corner I find it right now to present 4 simple Back to School cliparts (a pen, a pencil, a marker and a board).

BACK TO SCHOOL activity (All About Me)

This is a First Day Back to School activity I always do with my second graders. It includes a coloring (for boys and girls) and an about me information to be filled in.A similar activity I did with them at the end of the year so hopefully they will be able to complete this sheet without many questions as the main purpose is to work on it independently. I've only included the material they learned last year but for better results I'd advice to do a little brainstorming before the worksheets are handed out to them.

ALL ABOUT ME (worksheet)

We have one month left for the summer vacations and it's high time to plan on the summer homework. I wonder if all the school give summer homework...
Last year we had a Holidays Book for them to work during the vacations but the parents kept calling and complaining on it being kind of hard for the level of our students so we were asked to prepare materials ourselves.
The first page will include an All About Me worksheet.

BACK TO SCHOOL (All About Me)

This is an activity I have prepared for the first day of school for my second graders based on what they learned last year. It can be done after some prior revision and brainstorming. While revising the color and animal names you can write the list on the board to avoid the students always turning to you for the spelling. After the students fill in the information they can color the handout and stick it on the first page of their notebooks. I will share how they turn out later once we are back to school.

BACK TO SCHOOL ACTIVITY (speaking cards)

This is an activity I have been doing with my second and third graders for a couple of years and they always participate enthusiastically.
It is a fun way of reviewing the basic expressions and vocabulary through speaking cards.
It is essential for the teacher to include only the material previously learnt to avoid embarrassment and to provide the positive attitude.
If you didn't teach that class in the previous year you could simply have a look at their book as the main principal of this activity is the revision of the basic material after the summer vacations.

THIS IS HOW IT IS DONE

- prepare speaking cards that include questions, instructions and commands to act

- print them on colored paper and cut them

- hold the cards in your hands and call out one student from each team (each row)

- each student chooses one card and first reads it silently thinking about the answer

- after that the student reads the card aloud and gives the answer either by saying or miming or drawing depending on the task.

This could be done either as a competition when the team earns a point for each correct answer or just as an activity.
I used to hold lots of team competitions but sometimes they can lead to tears e.g. if anyone fails to know the answer so am trying to hold competitions on special occasions.
