Classroom Objects , Classroom Vocabulary

Follow my blog with Bloglovin
Find a list of Classroom Objects that you can review with your students every beginning of the year. I printed them on colored paper, then cut them. I showed them to students to elicit answers. Some of the words were taught, and some of them were just used during everyday speech.
You can do many followup-activities.
Personally, we played the Broken Telephone game. After each set of 10 classroom objects, I would call 10 students to the board and would whisper a name of a classroom object and each student would repeat it for a friend and only the last student would call out the word loudly.

BACK TO SCHOOL song "HELLO" song

This is a very energetic song that our Music teacher suggested teaching our students last year and I am planning to include in my curriculum this year too. First I made a PowerPoint with the lyrics and then turned it into a video and posted it on YouTube.

You can download the PDF file of the lyrics below

WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL POEMS

The Back to School supplies are already shining in the stores and the ads are haunting us at every corner (a sigh).
Have you already turned on the "Back to School" mode? Are you already trying to make up your back to school plans for the coming year? If you are in search of some cute Back to School Welcome poems to teach to your students or just display in class on the first day, I have combined 7 of my favourite "Welcome" poems in one downloadable printable. Most of the poems are traditional or the authors are unknown. If anyone knows the authors, I would love to give credits to them.

CLASSROOM REQUESTS (posters)

I find it very important to teach my ESL students the classroom requests from the beginning of the year so I made these colorful flashcards to use them as posters in the classroom or as a PPT presentation.I also made a simple "Speak English" poster to be displayed in the classroom. You just need to print it on a colored paper and voila,it will catch everyone's eye.

BACK TO SCHOOL (All About Me)

This is an activity I have prepared for the first day of school for my second graders based on what they learned last year. It can be done after some prior revision and brainstorming. While revising the color and animal names you can write the list on the board to avoid the students always turning to you for the spelling. After the students fill in the information they can color the handout and stick it on the first page of their notebooks. I will share how they turn out later once we are back to school.

BACK TO SCHOOL ACTIVITY (speaking cards)

This is an activity I have been doing with my second and third graders for a couple of years and they always participate enthusiastically.
It is a fun way of reviewing the basic expressions and vocabulary through speaking cards.
It is essential for the teacher to include only the material previously learnt to avoid embarrassment and to provide the positive attitude.
If you didn't teach that class in the previous year you could simply have a look at their book as the main principal of this activity is the revision of the basic material after the summer vacations.

THIS IS HOW IT IS DONE

- prepare speaking cards that include questions, instructions and commands to act

- print them on colored paper and cut them

- hold the cards in your hands and call out one student from each team (each row)

- each student chooses one card and first reads it silently thinking about the answer

- after that the student reads the card aloud and gives the answer either by saying or miming or drawing depending on the task.

This could be done either as a competition when the team earns a point for each correct answer or just as an activity.
I used to hold lots of team competitions but sometimes they can lead to tears e.g. if anyone fails to know the answer so am trying to hold competitions on special occasions.

BACK TO SCHOOL (poem)

This poem that I found in Family and Friends Level 2 is probably the best one I've been trying to find for my second graders and I am definitely going to use it next year.
