Rhyming words - Riddles

A few years ago I created rhyming words printables that I posted on my Facebook page and on my ESL Printables account but not on my blog. So I decided that it also needs to be shared here on my blog.
Teaching rhyming words through riddles must be fun though I must confess I never had the chance to try it with my students, so if you do, let me know how it will go:)

EARTH DAY and RECYCLING (songs and a poem)

It is so important to raise environmentally aware students and kids these days. It's good to celebrate Earth Day but Earth needs our protection every day.
Recycling is the only way to protect sea animals and to decrease air pollution and global warming. And this education should start in early childhood, at school and at home, by teaching and by serving as an example.
I am planning to include more Recycling and Earth Day activities in my teaching curriculum this year. To start with, I searched for some cute songs and poems (unfortunately the authors are unknown and the links take nowhere) and turned them into printables.
They are simple and memorable and most importantly, the songs are sung to the tunes of popular songs so you don't need to spend time teaching the tune:)

WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL POEMS

The Back to School supplies are already shining in the stores and the ads are haunting us at every corner (a sigh).
Have you already turned on the "Back to School" mode? Are you already trying to make up your back to school plans for the coming year? If you are in search of some cute Back to School Welcome poems to teach to your students or just display in class on the first day, I have combined 7 of my favourite "Welcome" poems in one downloadable printable. Most of the poems are traditional or the authors are unknown. If anyone knows the authors, I would love to give credits to them.

Friends At School ( poem)

I found this poem online (unfortunately the author is unknown) and immediately decided to teach it to our second graders. It was a great opportunity to have a good discussion about friendship, good friends, their actions and character traits and reminding the students what one should do to be a good friend and to have good friends.

ICE CREAM (poem)

While looking for an end of year poem online, I came across a few Ice Cream poems but felt like making a few changes in them. This is the final result that my first-graders enjoyed reading. They also did a few fun ice cream activities along with learning it.

LINE UP CHANT

Do you want a fun way of teaching how to line up?I love this chant and have decided to turn it into a printable to display it in the classroom.Model first how the students should make a line. Then practise acting out. Before really making a line practise saying it. It can be practised like an attention grabber, like the teacher says: " Eyes..." , the students say : " on the door!"Then turn to the action itself.

You can download it for free in my new TPT store here

3D SHAPES ( poem + worksheet)

I enjoy teaching poems to my primary grade classrooms.Poetry is multi-sensory learning at its best.  Teaching poems doesn't take much time to practise. You won't have to overload the students with lots of words. Plus you can always act out and use gestures for the action words making it more fun and memorable.
Have a look at the 3D Shapes Poems I found at The Kindergarten Smorgasboard and turned it into a printable worksheet.
